To have a team that is most effective, they can’t be viewed as the bad guy. The image presented should be as an assistant and helper to everyone who works in a group home. Especially staff who are taking advantage of the company there will be resistance. Some managers will take it personally that they are not doing their job. New proceedure changes are harder on some people than other people.
There are ways to have your QC/LP team be “user friendlyâ€:
- Keep non-compliance in house-have the team work directly with the house manager and give time for compliancy before a report is given to upper management. Ideally, the report to upper management will be a positive one because it will be a repot that things were taken care of.
- Listen to the staff-they are in the home and have direct knowledge of what is happening in the home. Some of the staff that work in a group home have given up trying to talk to the house manager because nothing is getting done. Staff usually won’t go to the office because they are concerned about repercussions from the manager and job security. The QC/LP team can be the perfect bridge in the gap.
- Positive recognition-the QC/LP team should give out certificates and incentives in recognition of compliant houses and staff. Everyone who works in a group home will appreciate getting “caught†doing a good job.
Different staff will have different acceptance of the quality control/loss prevention team. The staff that is working hard and following the rules will welcome the QC/LP team because often they carry the burden of work and responsibilities for the staff that are slacking often do it without recognition. The staff that is a little lazy will often work better when they know they can’t get away with it any longer. For the staff that is taking advantage, stealing, etc. they will fight the new team the hardest and will probably find some excuse to leave the company.
With the proper presentation and quality control/loss preventions team can be a welcomed positively by the staff working in a group home.
